What is Reverence?
Awareness of how God is working through the people and
events in my life to produce the character of Christ in me. It's related to the motivational gift of Teaching Scripture Text: "Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the Lord all the day long. For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off." - Proverb 23:17,18 Some of the Attributes: "Learning to respect the persons and property of others." "Recognizing how God works through those in authority." "Giving proper honor to people in positions of authority and learning how God works through them to give protection and to us and/or build His Character in us." Questions to ask yourself: 1. Do you show respect to God by your conduct in Church? 2. Do you have any habits that reveal to God and others that you're not treating your body as the temple of the Lord? 3. Do you refer to policemen as the ministers of God, or some other term? 4. Do you show respect to the country by your treatment of the flag? 5. Do you ever take the Lord's Name in vain or use abbreviated swearing? (using initials) Projects to help instill this quality: How can I show more reverence when I come to a meeting of the church? How can I show my co-workers or class mates a greater degree of respect? What can I do to show my neighbors and friends that I respect them? Bible Study Questions: 1. Give an example of how reverence was demonstrated by a Bible character. 2. How did Jesus demonstrate reverence? |
