LOVE
vs
Selfishness/Fleshly
What is Love?
Giving to other's basic needs without having as my motive, personal reward.
It's related to the motivational gift of
Exhortation
Scripture Text:
"And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my
body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing."
-
1 Corinthians 13:3
Some of the Attributes:
Learning to serve others compassionately, by the learning and living in
Charater Qualities.
By not exhibiting a rude and uncaring attitude/
Learning to always think the good and best of others.
Learning how to be a good listener.
Developing an habit of trusting and hoping for the best God has for us
and others.
Questions to ask yourself:
1. When you are with a person, do you enjoy spending time over and
above what is expected or required?
2. Do you lose your temper?
3. In what practical ways have you demonstrated love to others during
the past week?
4. Do you practice good manners?
5. Are you possessive in your friendships?
6. Do the actions or attitudes of others diminish the love you have
for them?
Projects and Bible Study Questions to help instill this quality:
Read 1 Corinthians 13:4-7a and Substitute "love" for "charity".
What was God's greatest demonstration of love to us?
Read Galations 5:22,23 and compare it with 1 Corinthians 13:4-7a.
Why is love gerater than faith or hope?
Why is selfishness (fleshly) given as an opposite of love, rather than hate
being the opposite?
Read Philippians 4:8. Why might a habit of doing this help one to develope
love for others?
NOTE:
One of the greatest mistakes we make in loving is that we tend to give
love the way we receive it, rather than giving love the way the other
person needs it, regardless of how they might treat us or think of us.
