    HUMILITY
    vs
    Pride

      What is Humility?

Recognizing that God and others are actually responsible for the achievements in my life.
It's related to the motivational gift of Ruling

    Scripture Text:

"But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble."  -  James 4:6

    Some of the Attributes:

  • Recognizing my weakness and showing awareness, as a little child, that God, and sometimes others, are responsible for the accomplishments in my life.  (a.c.e.)
  • Recognizing my complete inability to accomplish anything for God apart from His Grace.
  • Understanding how deceitful the heart is.
  • Quickly redirecting praise to God and others.
  • Distinguishing between flattery and praise.

    Questions to ask yourself:

    1.  How many times during the past week have you thanked God for the things He has allowed you to accomplish?
    2.  Do you welcome criticism or secretly resent the one who gives it?
    3.  Are you inwardly grieved or pleased when you learn that another Christian has failed?
    4.  Are you unwilling to have others help you with a project because you do not want to share the praise with them?
    5.  Do you look at the physical defects as God's marks of ownership?

Projects and Bible Study Questions to help instill this quality:

  • Memorize Philippians 2:5-11.  Jesus showed us true humility.
  • Pride is a constant enemy.  List the three main areas in you life where you struggle with pride?  Here are some examples:
           1.  Position/Prestige
           2.  Possessions
           3.  Principals
           4.  Personality
           5.  Pursuits/Pleasure
           6.  Power
           7.  Purposes/Ministry
