    GENTLENESS
    vs
    Harshness

      What is Gentleness?

Expressing personal care appropriate to another's emotional need.
It's related to the motivational gift of Mercy

    Scripture Text:

"But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children."  -   1 Thessalonians 2:7

    Some of the Attributes:

  • Showing careful thought or attention for the needs or feelings of others.  (a.c.e.)
  • Learning to respond to needs with kindness and love.
  • Knowing what is appropriate to the emotional needs of others.
  • Learning how to administer direction without impatience or anger.

    Questions to ask yourself:

    1.  Do those you correct walk away motivated or discouraged?
    2.  Do people avoid you when they know they have disappointed you?
    3.  Do you take the time to build a friendship along with correction?
    4.  Do those who work with you feel that you are committed to them or to getting the job done?

Projects and Bible Study Questions to help instill this quality:

  • How did Jesus demonstrate gentleness?
  • People have different emotional needs.  How did Jesus deal differently with different people?
  • How did the Apostle Paul treat people differently?
  • Gentleness is also a fruit of the Spirit.  Have you noticed that He deals gently with you?

    NOTES:

In our day gentleness is not a quality lifted up by the world, especially for men.  However, people still respond to true gentleness for men.  However, people still respond to true gentleness rather than the "macho" image portrayed by Hollywood.
