What is Discretion?
The ability to avoid words, actions,and attitudes
which could result in undesirable consequences.
It's related to the motivational gift of Exhortation Scripture Text: "A prudent man forseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished." - Proverb 22:3 Some of the Attributes: Forming sound opinions and giving serious attention and thought to what one is doing, especially to details. (a.c.e.) Learning how to respond in difficult situations with the wisdom and character of Christ. Knowing what is appropriate and what is inappropriate. Seeing the consequences of words and actions further down the road. Questions to ask yourself: 1. Do you know good table manners and social graces? 2. Do you know what words cause others to react to you? 3. Are you aware of topics which should be avoided in conversations. 4. Do you know how to respond to embarassing situations? Projects and Bible Study Questions to help instill this quality: Read Mark 8:29,46. How much did Jesus practice discretion? Mark 12:28-34 tells about a discrete individual. Who was it? Why was he discrete? Read Psalms 112:5; Proverb 1:4; 2:11; and 3:21-24 |
