    CONTENTMENT
    vs
    Covetousness

      What is Contentment?

  • Realizing God has provided everything I need for my present happiness.
  • It's related to the motivational gift of Giving

    Scripture Text:

"And having food and raiment let us be therewith content."  1 Timothy 6:8

    Some of the Attributes:

  • "Learning to enjoy present possessions rather than desiring new or additional ones."
  • "Learning to control curiosity."
  • "Learning to enjoy times of being alone."
  • Understanding and accepting that God has provided everything I need for adjusting circumstances around me." (a.c.e.)
  • Understanding that if I am not satisfied with what I have, I will never be satisfied with what I want."
  • Knowing that the more I release earthly possessions, the more I can grasp eternal treasures."

    Questions to ask yourself:

    1.  Would you be content if everything were taken from you, but food and clothing?
    2.  Is the purpose of your job to be a good steward of your time or to gain riches for future possessions?
    3.  Do you compare your possessions with those others have?

Projects to help instill this quality:

  • Take inventory of your possessions and get rid of something you don't need.
  • Spend a period of your time (15 minutes to an hour) in quiet meditation.

    Bible Study Questions:

    1.  How did at a Bible Character illustrate contentment?
    2.  How did Jesus demonstrate contentment?
