What is Compassion?
Investing whatever is necessary to heal the hurts of others.
It's related to the motivational gift of Mercy Scripture Text: "But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?" - 1 John 3:17 Some of the Attributes: "Giving whatever is necessary to meet another's need without expecting anything in return. (a.c.e.) "Relieving the hurts of others and doing all that is possible to relieve them." "Learning to use words and actions which will bring comfort and healing." Questions to ask yourself: 1. Do you stare at or avoid people with physical or mental handicaps? 2. Have you ever made a joke at the expense of another person's physical, mental, or family background which he can't change? 3. Have you ever gained an advantage from another's misfortunes? 4. Do you treat older or disabled persons as if they were your father or mother? Projects and Bible Study Questions to help instill this quality: Tell of a time when the Bible says that Jesus specifically had compassion on the people. a. Why did He have compassion? What Bible Character, other than Jesus, showed the quality of compassion? |
