    ATTENTIVENESS
    vs
    Unconcern

      What is Attentiveness?

  • It is showing the worth of a person by giving sincere attention to his words.
  • It's related to the motivational gift of Mercy

    Scripture Text:

"Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip."  Hebrews 2:1

    Some of the Attributes:

  • "Demonstrating that the person is deserving by giving genuine courtesy and consideration to God's Word or a person's words"
  • "Showing the worth of a person by giving undivided attention to his words and emotions"
  • "Learning the wishes of parents (and others) through facial expressions, words, and tone of the voice"
  • "Listening to conscience and the promptings of the Holy Spirit to learn God's moral standards and will"
  • "Learning who to be attentive to, what to listen for, and who not to listen to"

    Questions to ask yourself:

    1.  When you are spoken to by someone in your family, do you stop what you are doing, look at them, and listen?
    2.  Do you share with your family the promptings of your conscience and the Holy Spirit and the things He reveals to you in Scripture?
    3.  Do you ever look at your watch or doze off during a sermon, class or conversation?
    4.  Do you glance at other people or things when someone is talking to you?
    5.  Do you get all the directions clear on a project before starting it?

Projects to help instill this quality:

  • How can I demonstrate attentiveness?
  • Learn to really listen to what others are saying.
  • Take notes in church, meetings, classes, and even in normal conversation.
  • Don't disturb or interrupt others.

    Bible Study Questions:

    1.  How did at least two Bible Characters illustrate attentiveness?
    2.  How did Jesus Demonstrate attentiveness?
