    ALERTNESS
    vs
    unAwareness

      What is Alertness?

  • Ability to anticipate right responses to that which is taking place around me.
  • It's related to the motivational gift of Serving

    Scripture Text:

"Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak."  Mark 14:38

    Some of the Attributes:

  • "Learning to pay attention to all the lessons God is teaching through authorities, friends, and experiences."
  • "Learning to foresee dangers and fully understand the consequences of present words, actions, attitudes, and thoughts."

    Questions to ask yourself:

    1.  Do you drive defensively, or trust the other person to drive safely?
    2.  Have those under your care experienced problems which you should have detected and corrected long before you did?
    3.  Are you aware of opportunities God gives to witness and encourage others to grow spiritually?
    4.  What is the last problem you could have avoided by being alert to danger?
    5.  Have you learned how to "tune out" distractions that hinder you from being alert to the right things?

Projects and Bible Study Questions to help instill this quality:

  • Looking at the animal kingdom, tell how alertness is important to them.  Give some examples.
  • How can this sense of alertness be dulled, and what is the result?
  • How did Jesus demonstrate alertness?
  • How did another Bible Character illustrate alertness?
  • How did Samson show a lack of this quality?
